The bricks are obtained by moulding clay in rectangular blocks of uniform size and then by drying these blocks. They are of uniform size, light in weight and require no lifting appliances. The bricks are of various sizes. The actual size of a modular brick is 19 cm × 9 cm × 9 cm. With mortar thickness size of such a brick becomes 20 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm and it is known as the nominal size of the modular bricks. Common bricks must have a minimum compressive strength of 50 kg/m2 and the average water absorption should not be more than 20 per cent by weight.
